Drivers are still facing long delays on the M6 this afternoon after a lorry lost part of its load, prompting offal to be strewn across the carriageway.

Lanes one, two and three are closed on the M6 north between J14 and J15 near Stafford after a heavy goods vehicle transporting offal shed its load.

National Highways confirmed that its traffic officers are on scene to assist with the management of vehicles in the area.

Motorists are still dealing with severe delays of up to two hours between Junctions 13 and 15, with “very heavy congestion” of up to nine miles.

The transport organisation stated: “Specialist crews are now on scene to begin the clean-up work from the spillage.

“This is protracted due to the nature of the spillage and specialist equipment required to safely handle the material.”

Drivers are being advised to follow the M1 and A50 if possible, especially if they are travelling from further afield.

National Highways stated that work was being completed to clear the offal from the road

National Highways stated that clear-up works are “mostly complete”, while assisting in the vehicle recovery.

Once the vehicle has been removed from the road, specialist crews will conduct a final clear-up of the surrounding area.

Posting on social media, National Highways: West Midlands confirmed that lane three had reopened, with lanes one and two remaining closed.

“Recovery is underway. Long delays remain, please use alternative routes where possible,” the transport organisation announced.
