Martin Daubney was left “close to tears” after a Cornish brewery was announced to close – a cut which will cause 50 job losses in the process.

American brewing company Molson Coors said Sharp’s Brewery, based in Rock, would close by the end of 2026 since the site was “no longer financially sustainable”.

Managing director Simon Kerry confirmed 200 staff would be made redundant across the firm – and 50 would be those employed at the Rock brewery.

Speaking about the closure, Martin said: “You know, Gillian, I’m actually getting quite close to tears. I’ve got those pints that will be taken away and I’ve seen in my home city, Nottingham. Home Brewery went, Shipston went, Kimberley went. They all went in the end.

“Well, let’s hope that Sharp’s can be resurrected somewhere. A legend slips into the sea,” he added.
