Royal Mail has issued a warning to customers across 44 UK postcodes that their deliveries will face delays.

As of yesterday (February 24), the postal service confirmed that 18 delivery offices nationwide are struggling to maintain normal operations.

High rates of staff sickness, resourcing difficulties and other localised problems have hampered the company’s ability to meet its standard six-day-a-week delivery commitment.

In a statement, Royal Mail said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.”

Offices experiencing problems span the length of Britain, from Cardiff in Wales to Lochgelly in Scotland, with Pontefract in Yorkshire and Lisburn in Northern Ireland also affected.

To minimise inconvenience for individual households, the company has implemented a rotation system for deliveries in troubled areas.

Royal Mail explained: “In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

The postal operator added: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”

While the company’s air network operated without problems over the preceding 24 hours, road transport encountered difficulties. A vehicle departing the Midlands Parcel Hub bound for Preston and Glasgow Mail Centres left later than scheduled.

This delay means post destined for the BB, FY, LA, PR, G, KA, ML and PA postcode areas may arrive behind schedule.Separately, Bristol Mail Centre experienced issues with items posted from portions of the BA, BS, GL and TA postcode areas.

This mail, intended for delivery elsewhere in the country, has also been affected by the disruption.
