A horrific machete attack on a busy West Midlands street left two teenagers in hospital.

The incident unfolded on Stratford Road in the Shirley area of Solihull at around 9pm on Saturday February 7.

West Midlands Ambulance Service rushed two boys, aged 15 and 14, to hospital following the incident.

Officers from West Midlands Police attended the scene and arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of wounding with intent.

Maan Al Naif, who owns the nearby Cleopatra’s Kitchen, said the fight began outside his establishment.

He told BirminghamLive: “The kids were hanging around by the door, I told them to move out the way so customers could come in. Then five young lads in tracksuits and balaclavas arrived.

“I thought it was just a fight because stuff was being broken outside and I went out to move away. Then I saw they were chopping them with machetes and locked the door. I didn’t want anyone else to get hurt.

“One boy was badly hurt with a cut to his head and suffered another nasty cut to his arm. The other had a really bad cut on his nose and was covered in blood. The boys managed to get up and collapsed outside Boss Mart, I think because of the blood.”

Mr Al Naif added the road has become so dangerous over the last 12 months, he was considering relocating his business.

He said: “If this incident happens again, I will have to relocate…Shirley has gotten more dangerous over the past year, I don’t understand with the new generation.”

Another nearby local added: “I don’t know what the world is coming to.”

A staff member at Cleopatra’s Kitchen said: “I don’t understand the new generation. This is terrifying.”

“We’re investigating and would urge people with witnesses or people with information such as dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact us on 101 quoting crime number 20/140175/26.

“Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
