A former Tory minister has blasted Labour for “getting it absolutely wrong” on immigration since it scrapped the Rwanda scheme.

Today, it was announced the east African country was suing Britain for failing to terminate the agreement formally, seeking £50million in compensation.

When Labour shot to power in Westminster, Sir Keir Starmer ditched the controversial scheme on his first day in office.

Discussing the matter with Patrick Christys, Tom Pursglove fumed: “They got this completely wrong.

“When they took office, the first thing they did, to great fanfare, was to cancel the Rwanda policy.

“And everything we’ve seen since has proven why that was a disaster.

“Crossing numbers up. We’ve got more people in hotels. And actually the one in, one out deal that I was saying was always going to be a farce.”
