An 87-year-old man has died after being hit by a car as he crossed the road.

Greater Manchester Police said the man was hit by a Vauxhall Astra in Great Cheetham Street East, Salford, just after 17:30 GMT on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but later died, the force said.

The driver remained at the scene and was assisting officers with their investigation. No arrests have been made and police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward.
