A derelict former convent has been badly damaged in a fire near woods in Salford.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said its crews were called to the Greenleach Lane, in Worsley, just after 19:30 GMT on Saturday.

The fire brigade had issued a warning to residents after the fire near Worsley Woods produced a large amount of smoke.

The fire was extinguished at the old St Joseph convent but two fire engines were still at the scene on Sunday morning.
