A fifth person has been arrested after a man was shot in the street in Trafford.

The 21-year-old man remains in hospital in a stable but critical condition after being shot on Higher Road, Urmston, on 16 January.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrested a 38-year-old man on Friday on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Four men aged 18, 21, 25 and 28 arrested earlier this week for the same offences have been bailed pending further investigations, a GMP spokesperson said.

Officers found the injured man after being called to reports of a firearm discharge at about 20:40 GMT, the spokesperson said.

Det Ch Insp Justin Bryant said: “We have been continuing in our pursuit of arresting those who we feel were involved.”

Bryant said he was “explicitly clear” that “this level of violence will not be accepted on our streets”.

Anyone with information or CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
