Labour Deputy Leader Lucy Powell and London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan have both backed Andy Burnham’s return to Westminster.
The Mayor of Greater Manchester has until 5pm to decide if he wants to stand in the Gorton and Denton by-election.
Sir Sadiq said Mr Burnham should be allowed to stand as an MP if he “wants to”, while Ms Powell said it “should be up to Andy and the local members”.
