A dog nicknamed “Captain Cuddles” has finally found his forever home after spending more than 1,000 days in kennels.
Staffie-cross Captain spent 1,165 days at Dogs Trust Glasgow before he was eventually rehomed earlier this year.
The loveable pooch arrived at the kennels in December 2021 and had spent four Christmases without finding a permanent home.
Despite his affectionate personality, Captain attracted little interest during his lengthy stay at the shelter, meeting just one potential family during his time there.
But his luck changed when his new owner, Tom Gallacher, reached out to the charity asking about dogs in their care who were old, ill, or had spent a long time in kennels.
Mr Gallacher, from Wishaw, began his search for a new four-legged friend after losing his 17-year-old collie-cross, Ben, in 2021 who he described as his “heart and soul”.
“As soon as I met him, I knew he was my doggy,” he said.
“He clearly had so much love to give, but no one to give it to. All he needed was a chance.

“When he came home with me in April, I realised that although I wanted to give Cappy a second chance, ironically, he gave me one.
“He is the sweetest, kindest boy and I adore him.”
Mr Gallacher added he was “incredibly excited” to spend his first Christmas with his beloved pet.
“He also celebrates his birthday in December when he will be 12. I am planning a party with a cake and many, many gifts,” he said.

Captain came into Dogs Trust care after being rescued a council pound in Northern Ireland.
The pooch spent time in foster care to give him a break from kennel life before finding his forever home and became known as the “perfect house guest”, the charity said.
Sandra Downie, Manager at Dogs Trust Glasgow said: “We are thrilled that Captain has found his happy place for Christmas.
“He was always loved, as it is impossible not to love Captain Cuddles, but now he knows what it is like to be part of a family and live in a home where he is spoiled from morning to night, and that makes us all very happy.
“It is what our job is all about, helping every dog find the forever home for them.”
