Claudia Winkleman appeared delighted as King Charles presented her with an MBE during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old Strictly Come Dancing presenter, dressed in a white suit and headband, was photographed greeting the monarch as she received the honour for her services to broadcasting.

Her co-host Tess Daly had been awarded the same honour just weeks earlier.

When the King’s Birthday Honours list was revealed in June, Winkleman had already announced her plans to bring her mother along to the ceremony.

“I will buy a hat and am taking my mum,” she said at the time, adding: “I am ridiculously lucky.”

Winkleman has been involved with Strictly since the programme launched in 2004, initially presenting the BBC2 companion show It Takes Two.

Her work impressed executives at the corporation, leading to her taking on the Sunday results programme alongside Daly.

When Sir Bruce Forsyth stepped back from his presenting duties in 2014, Winkleman was elevated to become the main co-host.

The BBC dance competition marked its 20th anniversary last year, with both presenters remaining central figures throughout its two-decade run.

Daly originally fronted the main show with Sir Bruce from the very beginning, while Winkleman built her reputation through the spin-off before joining her on the flagship programme.

When the honour was first announced in June, Winkleman expressed her deep appreciation for the recognition.

“I am incredibly grateful to receive this honour,” she said. “It’s a real privilege to work with extraordinarily talented people and I have only got this because of them. So this is for the BBC, the traitors and the faithful, for pianos and for the cha cha.”

The reference to “traitors and faithful” acknowledged her role hosting The Traitors, the hit BBC game show.

She also revealed her intention to mark the occasion with her Strictly partner, saying she would “celebrate with Tess by doing a paso doble.”

The Royal Family are devoted viewers of the BBC dance programme, with Queen Camilla having described herself as “one of Strictly’s greatest fans” and telling professional dancer Johannes Radebe “we all watch it.”

Vernon Kay, Daly’s husband, has spoken about the genuine bond that has developed between his wife and the Queen.

“Camilla and Tess have a real friendship through it now,” the BBC radio presenter said, noting the Queen is always eager to hear backstage gossip when they meet.

Beyond their television careers, both presenters are committed to charitable causes, with Winkleman serving as patron of Child Bereavement UK and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
