A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a man and assaulting three other people in a town centre.

A 21-year-old man suffered wounds to his chest and was taken to hospital after the incident on Railway Street, Altrincham, Greater Manchester, in the early hours of Sunday. He remains in a serious but stable condition.

Another man in his 20s suffered “life-changing” injuries to his face, while a 51-year old man and a woman, 52, also received minor injuries.

Nathan Peters, 23, appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court earlier, police said. He was charged with attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
