Prince William and Princess Kate’s children are set for a festive theatre treat, with an invitation extended to Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, to attend the West End’s Paddington The Musical over the Christmas period.

Theatre producer Sonia Friedman has confirmed the children are expected to watch the stage adaptation of the beloved British bear’s adventures.

“We can’t wait for Paddington to meet the children of the Prince and Princess of Wales because I think they’re going to come to the show, which will be very special,” Friedman told Hello at the production’s red carpet event.

The musical adaptation features original songs and lyrics penned by McFly’s Tom Fletcher, bringing the marmalade-loving bear to the stage.

The production holds particular significance given Paddington’s memorable appearance alongside the late Queen Elizabeth II during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, when the pair shared a marmalade sandwich in a beloved sketch.

The children’s parents have already experienced a preview of the show.

The Prince and Princess of Wales viewed a performance excerpt from their private box at the Royal Variety Performance on November 19, an event set to broadcast on ITV on December 21 2025.

Friedman, renowned for her work on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, expressed optimism about the timing of the royal visit. “We’re hoping so!” she responded when questioned about whether the children would attend soon.

The producer reflected on the extensive journey to bring Paddington to the stage. “We’re very happy. We’re very proud. It’s taken hundreds and hundreds of people and many years to get to this point, and we’re handing it over to the audience now, so it feels great,” she said.

Fellow producer Eliza Lumley highlighted the cultural significance of the royal connection.

She said: “Paddington is an institution it feels like a British institution so for one to meet the other was an iconic moment.”

Mr Fletcher, who composed the show’s music, has extended a personal invitation to the royal couple.

He said: “I have invited [the Prince and Princess of Wales] to see the show, so who knows. Hopefully, at some point, they’ll make it to a theatre to see it.”

The musician described his Royal Variety experience as “quite a surreal moment,” noting: “I got to introduce Paddington to their Royal Highnesses.

“They seemed to really enjoy it we got to perform a tiny little peek of the show at the Royal Variety, and it went down very well, so I’m hoping it gets the same reaction tonight.”

Mr Fletcher recalled a memorable encounter during McFly’s first Royal Variety Performance, when bandmate Danny inadvertently initiated a conversation with the Queen, breaking protocol.

Mr Fletcher shared: “She was very lovely and sweet, and had a lovely conversation with him in turn. So that was probably one of my favourite memories.”
