Kade Hassan-Hughes was allegedly travelling in a BMW which was being pursued by police before the incident

A 19-year-old was hit by two cars as he attempted to cross a motorway on foot during a police chase, an inquest has heard.

Kade Hassan-Hughes, of Abbey Hey, died on 16 November after he was hit by a Tesla and a Nissan as he tried to cross the M66 southbound carriageway.

Mr Hassan-Hughes was allegedly travelling in a BMW which was being pursued by police just before his death, Rochdale Coroners’ Court was told on the opening day of the inquest.

The court heard a group of men got out of the car after it collided with another vehicle and ran towards the carriageway where Mr Hassan-Hughes was seen falling over and being struck by the first car.

Jumped over bridge

Mr Hassan-Hughes was hit first by a Tesla and he was then struck by a second car, a Nissan, within seconds of the first collision.

His death was confirmed by emergency services who arrived at the scene, the inquest was told.

In the lead-up to his death Mr Hassan-Hughes is thought to have got out of a BMW with several others and jumped over a bridge near Junction 18 at Simister Island before heading down towards the carriageway.

The BMW in question had passed through red lights and failed to stop for police that evening.

An ongoing investigation into the incident is being led by Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collison Investigation Unit.

A post-mortem examination took place but the precise medical cause of Mr Hassan-Hughes’ death had not been ascertained, the inquest was told.
