A man has been charged with arson and intent to endanger life after a homeless man’s tent was set on fire as he slept.
Police said officers saw the tent “engulfed in flames” on Corporation Street in Manchester just after midnight on Friday, before realising someone was inside.
They rescued a 53-year-old man and said he sustained no visible injuries but his belongings were destroyed.
James Black, 51, of no fixed abode, has been charged with arson and intent to endanger life and has been remanded in custody, Greater Manchester Police said.
