A woman in her 50s died at the house in Swindon on Friday evening

A 13-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died inside a house.

Police officers found a woman who was not breathing when they arrived at the house in Swindon at about 19:00 GMT on Friday after receiving a report of a disorder.

The woman, who was in her 50s and lived at the address in Baydon Close, Moredon, died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

The 13-year-old girl was later arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody for questioning where she remains, Wiltshire Police said.

A spokesperson for the force said there were no other reported injuries and a cordon had been set up at the property while investigations continue.

Wiltshire Police said residents should expect an increased police presence in the area

“This is a serious incident in which a woman has sadly died,” said Det Insp Darren Ambrose.

“We appreciate the concern that this may cause the local community. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to an officer.”

He said police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident but added there will be an increased police presence in the area.

“We would encourage people not to speculate on the circumstances around this incident,” he added.
