Lord Peter Mandelson faces a council investigation and possible fine after being caught urinating in public.

In photos seen by GB News, the former US ambassador could be seen relieving himself against a wall in west London.

He was pictured hours earlier carrying a bottle of Chilean wine and was believed to be visiting the home of ex-Conservative chancellor George Osborne.

Kensington and Chelsea Council confirmed it has launched an investigation.

Councillor Johnny Thalassites, lead member for environment and planning at the local authority, said: “We are aware of images appearing to show a prominent politician caught short on one of our streets and are investigating whether an offence has been committed.

“While we appreciate that nature can call at the most inconvenient moments, we are proud of our borough’s clean streets and amazing spaces and it is unacceptable for anyone to treat them as a urinal.”

The council said the maximum fine for public urination in the borough is £300, reduced to £150 if paid within 14 days, according to The Standard.

Lord Mandelson said there was “no disguising my embarrassment” over the incident, the publication reports.

“I can only offer my profuse apologies,” he said.

“I was stood up by two Uber drivers and kept waiting in the street for half an hour, and was bursting.”

The ex-ambassador was sacked by Sir Keir Starmer in September after the extent of his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was revealed.

Emails disclosed then showed that Lord Mandelson was sending supportive messages to Epstein up until 2010 – including after his conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution.

He appeared to tell the disgraced financier to “fight for early release” shortly before he was sentenced to 18 months in prison and was reported to have told Epstein “I think the world of you” the day before he began his sentence.

Lord Mandelson said the emails were “embarrassing to read”.

When he was removed from his post, the Government said the emails showed “the depth and extent of Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is materially different from that known at the time of his appointment”.

Correspondence from six years later was published last week among thousands of documents from Epstein’s estate by the US House Oversight Committee.

The exchange begins with a November 2016 email in which Epstein can be seen to say to Lord Mandelson: “63 years old. You made it,” in an apparent reference to his birthday.

The messages also appear to suggest Lord Mandelson warned Epstein to stay away from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was recently stripped of his titles by the King.

Epstein appears to tell Lord Mandelson, “you were right about staying away from Andrew”.
