I’m A Celebrity only returned to ITV on Sunday night, but Tuesday’s episode saw the famous faces in tears after just a few days separated from their families as they received photos from home.

Viewers were left baffled by the emotional reaction as the group shared sweet pictures of their loved ones with each other, with most of the campmates sobbing as they expressed the struggle of being apart from their relatives and partners.

The moment came after contestants Shona McGarty, Jack Osbourne, Eddie Kadi and Lisa Riley took part in the Dark Room Challenge.

The task gave the group the opportunity to win photos from home for themselves and fellow celebs, with the team succeeding in their goal.

Fans of the show had already expressed bewilderment at the photos segment coming just three days into the series, with similar, family-focused milestones in the show happening much later in previous editions.

Additionally, viewers couldn’t help but express their confusion on social media when many of the stars burst into tears at the prospect of their loved ones watching them from home.

Comedian Ruby Wax was the first to receive her photo and took a far less sentimental approach to the whole thing.

The actress and mental health campaigner had picked a photo of her two cats, admitting: “I feel so bad because it should have been a photo of my family.

“They’re going to be so angry at home that I’m not holding up ‘these are my children and this is my husband.’ Cats. That’s all I’m thinking about is my cats!”

However, Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp became instantly emotional upon receiving his photo of his wife Shirlie and two children.

Speaking from the Bush Telegraph, the singer reflected: “This picture is what I do it all for… What I do everything for.”

With a shaky voice, he added as he became tearful: “I see a happy family. I feel a lot of love, a lot of love for them.”

Kelly Brooke also got tearful over the photo of her husband, Jeremy, and her beloved dog. “I didn’t think it was going to be as hard as this, to be honest,” she admitted.

On missing her own partner, singer Jess Glynne, former footballer Alex Scott shared: “It’s the longest we’ve ever been separated. I hope she’s doing alright and I can’t wait to get home and see her.”

Lisa Riley and Ms McGarty also broke down in tears over the photographs. However, social media was soon awash with mocking comments from fans.

One baffled viewer shared: “#imacelebrity been in the jungle 10 minutes and are already looking for photographs of relatives from home. Jeez, try a six-month tour on a submarine.”

“Perhaps this makes me a cold-hearted person but as someone who always spends the ‘letters from home’ episode yawning, I am not here for a ‘photos of home’ segment. We’re 3 days in! #ImACelebrity,” a second echoed.

“They’ve been away 5 minutes, why are these people getting emotional over photos? #ImACeleb,” asked another.

Another wrote: “Late to the #ImACeleb episode tonight but why are they getting pictures of their family on the 2nd day and crying about it like they’ve been gone months.”

“The celebs getting pictures from home they have only been there 3 days? They wouldn’t cope with 7 weeks in #BBUK would they jeez. #ImACeleb,” someone else pointed out.

“Not being funny, but they’re barely over jet lag, and they’re sobbing over family photos. I’ve been on longer business trips,” a different fan added.

One more penned: “They can’t be away for 3 weeks from their families without having pictures etc FFS I’ve had longer holidays abroad without seeing family & friends for months, get a grip!” (sic)
