Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has admitted to GB News that it will “take time” to appoint a new chair for the Government’s long-awaited grooming gangs inquiry.

When is was suggested by GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope that Baroness Casey takes over, Mrs Mahmood said Louise Casey commands “huge trust” and is already supporting ministers on tackling abuse.

She insisted the delay would not derail the inquiry’s mission, promising it “remains absolutely on course”.

The Home Secretary vowed the Government “will not lose focus” as it searches for the right person to lead the probe.
