King Charles has initiated comprehensive changes to Royal Household operations, prioritising immediate efficiency and better use of public funds, according to a royal author.

Robert Jobson provides an insight into the measures taken with the Royal Family in his book titled The Windsor Legacy.

Staff reductions commenced promptly after Charles took the throne, with “value for money” becoming the dominant principle throughout the Household.

Palace insiders describe excessive layers of management, with “too many advisers to advisers” creating inefficiency.

Financial controls now extend across both taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant resources and the monarch’s private Duchy of Lancaster income.

Officials have received directives to reduce expenditure whilst addressing inequitable structures.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have received explicit instructions that they must support themselves financially.

The King expressed frustration to confidants that royal residences were “being run like a hotel, and not a very good one.”

Future property arrangements will involve market-rate rentals to vetted external tenants within palace environments.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s removal from Frogmore Cottage marked the beginning of these property reforms.

The Crown Estate residence, gifted by the late Queen in 2018 but vacant following their relocation overseas, in 2020 was reclaimed shortly after Prince Harry published his memoir in 2023.

A senior source described the eviction as the “tip of the iceberg”.
