The two surviving corgis of the late Queen Elizabeth II could soon face upheaval as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor prepares to vacate Royal Lodge, raising questions over where the monarch’s cherished pets will live next.

Muick and Sandy were gifted to the late Queen by her son, Andrew and his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, during the pandemic, offering companionship after the death of Prince Philip in 2021.

Following the Queen’s death in September 2022, the pair remained in familiar surroundings at Royal Lodge in Windsor, where Andrew and Sarah had continued to live together.

That arrangement is now coming to an end. King Charles III has ordered Andrew to surrender his lease on the 30-room property and relocate to a smaller residence on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Sarah, who divorced Andrew in 1996 but remained close to him, is making her own separate living arrangements.

The development has cast doubt on who will take responsibility for Muick and Sandy once the couple leave Windsor.

The dogs became much-loved figures in their own right after appearing at the late Queen’s funeral cortege, watching solemnly from the steps of Windsor Castle as their owner made her final journey to St George’s Chapel.

Fergie has frequently spoken about the corgis since inheriting them, describing them as “thriving” and “a huge joy.”

She has shared updates on social media, posting photos of the dogs in the grounds of Royal Lodge and referring to them as “national treasures.”

Sources close to the 65-year-old author told People this week she would not be moving to Sandringham, meaning she will “make her own arrangements” for accommodation — and potentially for the dogs’ care.

While Andrew’s relocation to Sandringham is expected to be funded privately by the King, there has been no official word on whether Muick and Sandy will accompany him to Norfolk or remain with Fergie.

Palace insiders have suggested both pets are primarily cared for by Fergie’s staff, though they are jointly owned.

The King’s decision to remove Andrew’s royal titles and honours this week — confirming he will no longer be styled as Prince or Duke of York — further distances him from royal duties.

Buckingham Palace confirmed he will now be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

The corgis’ welfare is likely to remain a sensitive topic. Queen Elizabeth’s lifelong affection for the breed was well known.

She owned more than 30 corgis and dorgis over seven decades, describing them as part of the family.

For now, Muick and Sandy are believed to still be at Royal Lodge, as Andrew and Fergie will be staying at their Windsor home until after Christmas.

GB News has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.
