Brazil hosts over half the Amazon Rainforest and stands as the planet’s most biologically diverse nation, playing an essential part in global environmental protection efforts.

The Earthshot Prize has witnessed nominations from Brazil and South America double compared to the previous year, with over 2,000 submissions.

Women and indigenous communities have spearheaded many of these proposals, including 144 solutions based in Brazil.

The prince’s itinerary includes encounters with various Rio de Janeiro community organisations addressing environmental issues.

These groups work collectively to preserve Brazil’s extensive landscapes and diverse ecosystems for coming generations.

William will observe how Brazilian innovators blend scientific knowledge, technological advances and natural environmental forces to cut emissions, improve air quality and maintain ecosystem health.

The Earthshot Prize represents a worldwide environmental initiative that identifies and supports creative approaches to the planet’s most pressing ecological crises, including climate change, air contamination and species decline.

Each year’s ceremony reveals five recipients who each secure £1 million in funding. The awards night brings together pioneering innovators, financial backers and youth climate campaigners who are advancing planetary restoration and conservation efforts.

The Rio de Janeiro event will highlight breakthrough environmental technologies and initiatives from across the globe. The gathering aims to accelerate the implementation of solutions that address critical ecological challenges whilst celebrating the achievements of emerging environmental leaders committed to planetary preservation.

The United for Wildlife Global Summit will establish environmental crime as a strategic international concern, delivered through collaboration with Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, INTERPOL, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Brazilian Federal Police.

Following the Rio engagements, Prince William will journey to Belém where he will represent King Charles at the COP30 World Leaders Summit.

The Brazilian visit demonstrates strengthened UK-Brazil cooperation on environmental matters, with the Prince set to engage with representatives from Brazil and the broader South American region.

The Earthshot ceremony will showcase climate innovations emerging from across the continent, reflecting the growing momentum of environmental solutions developed in the Global South.
