Olivia-Grace’s family said her “superpower was her incredible ability to make anyone feel better”

An eight-year-old girl who died following a medical episode at school has been described as a “perfect miracle”.

Olivia-Grace Huxter’s family said she was “the magic that could fix anything” who “loved to dance and sing”.

Emergency services were called to Penrhys Primary School near Tylorstown, Rhondda Cynon Taf, shortly after 14:00 BST on Wednesday.

Olivia-Grace was taken to hospital where she later died. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Olivia-Grace was described as a “cherished” member of her small primary school

Olivia-Grace’s family told Wales that the eight-year-old had overcome major open heart surgery and pneumonia, “even though doctors said she might not battle through it”.

“She was determined, brave and would put the strongest man to shame,” they added.

“She was a very gentle soul but had the ability to flip a dining room table at the slightest inconvenience.

“She had everyone wrapped around her little finger and she knew it. You couldn’t not smile around her.

“If you were having a bad day, Olivia-Grace was the one you needed to see, she was the magic that could fix anything. She was the centre of our family.”

Around 70 pupils attend the school on the Penrhys estate, which was closed on Thursday following Olivia-Grace’s death.

Gaynor Davies, director of education and inclusion services at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, described the Year Four pupil as “a cherished member of her close-knit school community and will be deeply missed by everyone”.

“I want to thank school staff who administered first aid until paramedics arrived to take over and transport her to hospital, where sadly, she later passed away,” she added.

A police spokesperson said an investigation on behalf of the coroner was under way, while the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it was aware of the incident and making enquiries.
