A local fire service has fulfilled the dream of an eight-year-old Chesterfield boy suffering from an extremely rare neurological disorder.
Elliott lives with molybdenum cofactor deficiency type A, a genetic illness affecting his brain and nervous system.
The condition leaves him unable to speak, dependent on medication delivered via a central line, and with learning difficulties.
Make-A-Wish UK collaborated with Derbyshire firefighters to create a special experience day for the youngster.
The personalised event allowed Elliott to live out his ambition of becoming a firefighter, complete with hands-on activities at the station he passes daily.
The memorable day featured Elliott taking a ride aboard a fire engine and wielding a hose to douse actual flames.
He also participated in a simulated road traffic collision scenario, where he helped break into a vehicle.
The firefighters arranged birthday celebrations for him, complete with cake and singing.

Elliott operated equipment directly from the fire truck, spraying water under supervision during the carefully orchestrated emergency drill.
One of the participating firefighters, Paul Hudson, said: “We got to make Elliott’s wish come true, really.
“He got to get off the truck, get a hose reel off and spray water on real flames, so a really good opportunity for him. The smile on his face was unbelievable.
“It’s a privilege to be able to create that experience and memory for him. The strength and courage he demonstrated was amazing. He showed us all what a real hero is, really, for a little lad of his age.”
Elliott’s mother, Lucy, expressed overwhelming gratitude for the tailored experience and explained her son’s deep fascination with firefighting stems from his love of Fireman Sam.
She said: “I don’t think ‘thank you’ is enough for what they’ve done for him. It was personalised and tailored to him and was an absolute dream come true.”
Lucy added: “We knew that Elliott is obsessed with firefighters. I don’t use the word ‘obsessed’ lightly.
“For years, everything is Fireman Sam and fire engines and fire hoses.
“When they said we could keep it local in the Chesterfield area, it made it even better because he goes past [the fire station] every single day, he goes to their open days and everything and it made it even more personal.
“He had birthday cake there, they sang happy birthday to him. He got to go on a ride in a fire engine, he got to break open a car that was like a mock up of a road traffic accident, it was just phenomenal.
“He talks about it non-stop on his talker. It’s just made his dream come true.”

Elliott received his diagnosis when he was just three days old.
Both parents unknowingly carried the genetic mutation responsible for the condition, which prevents his body from processing sulphur properly, causing accumulation in his brain.
According to charity Metabolic Support UK, Elliott is among only three children in the UK currently living with MoCD-A.
The disorder is typically fatal, with most affected children not surviving past their fourth birthday.

A specific medication called Fosdenopterin, marketed as Nulibry, has been developed for the condition.
However, the treatment remains unavailable in England after the pharmaceutical company withdrew its application for approval.
Jason Suckley, chief executive of Make-a-Wish UK, said: “Elliott played a starring role in his perfect day, essentially.
“An ’emergency’ occurred on site at the fire station in their training facility, and he was on hand to point the hose there.
“Every wish has its moments where you can just see the power of it, and that was it. He was absolutely beaming as he got the chance to do that.”
