Prince William has attended the launch event of the first global memorial for humanitarian aid workers at Gunnersbury Park in London.
The memorial has been created by British artist Michael Landy CBE RA and the Humanitarian Memorial Committee.
The Humanitarian Memorial Committee is a group of prominent UK-based humanitarians who came together in 2015 with the vision of creating a lasting tribute to aid workers.
The artwork honours all humanitarians who have died in service, as well as celebrating those who continue to put their lives at risk to help others in their hour of need.

Prince William viewed the memorial and delivered a speech during the event.
The memorial has been designed to show a circle of 15 human-scale figures with spaces allowing visitors to join hands to ‘complete the circle.’
Each figure features the story of either a contributor or a recipient of humanitarian aid.
The stories that have been provided by international aid agencies like Oxfam, Save the Children and Care International.

Prince William then met humanitarian workers from UNWRA, the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), Islamic Relief, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and Norwegian People’s Aid.
During these meetings, the royal heard about the current challenges faced by humanitarian workers in Ukraine, Sudan and the Middle East and hear about colleagues they have lost.
William also met with bereaved families and survivors of targeted attacks.

In 2024, William met with representatives from the British Red Cross and Palestine Red Cresent Society to hear about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and more widely in the region, as well as the impact this was having on staff.
In addition, the Prince and Princess of Wales met with rescue workers of the Disaster Emergency Committee in 2023 to thank them for their efforts following an earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
