British Gas is offering struggling households a financial lifeline worth up to £2,000 as energy costs climb again this winter.
The scheme reopens this Wednesday at 9am, just as bills are set to rise.
The British Gas Energy Support Fund will be reopened on Wednesday. From October 1, Ofgem’s price cap increases by two per cent, pushing the average annual bill for typical household usage from £1,720 to £1,755.
The timing of the support comes as heating needs grow, making energy costs even harder to manage.
Both credit and prepayment meter customers will be able to apply for help through the British Gas Energy Support Fund, which provides assistance with day-to-day bills or to clear energy debt.
This round of funding aims to ease pressure on families already feeling the pinch, especially with winter fast approaching.
Applications will be reviewed over four to six weeks, with successful households notified by text, email, or through the online portal.
Once approved, the support will appear as credits on energy accounts within two weeks.
Because the fund is run as an independent charity, applicants must prove they have sought professional advice about their energy debt.

Chris O’Shea, chief executive of Centrica, which owns British Gas, acknowledged the financial pressures facing households.
He said: “As winter approaches, we know that rising household bills are a real worry for many people across the UK. We want our customers to know that we’re here to support them.”

Mr O’Shea added: “We urge anyone who is worried about keeping their home warm this winter to apply to the fund or visit an advice centre and access the support available.”
The scheme maintains strict eligibility criteria that applicants must meet. The Trust will only consider clearing energy arrears in their entirety, with partial payments not being accepted.
Customers with energy debts exceeding £1,700 are ineligible for the Individuals and Families Fund, though they may reapply if they manage to reduce their arrears below this threshold.
The fund excludes applications for closed accounts, including situations where customers have relocated or switched energy providers.
Additionally, those who have settled their energy debt using credit cards or loans from family members or friends cannot apply for support through this scheme.
