Lidl has issued an immediate product recall for its Red Hen 4 Tempura Chicken Steaks after discovering a serious labelling error that could endanger customers with dairy allergies.
The supermarket chain confirmed that milk, a major allergen, has appeared in the product but lacks the required bold formatting on packaging labels.
The error subsequently poses a health hazard for individuals who suffer from milk allergies or intolerances, potentially triggering severe reactions if consumed unknowingly.
The recall affects multiple production batches of the 380-gram packs currently on sale across Lidl stores throughout Britain.

The affected products carry best before dates spanning from December 11, 2026, through to January 16, 2027, with the latter batch not distributed in Northern Ireland.
Lidl has implemented point-of-sale notifications in stores and contacted allergy support organisations to alert their members about the withdrawal.
No other products from Red Hen are impacted by the recall, the retailer confirmed.

The retailer has assured shoppers that anyone who purchased the affected chicken steaks can return them to their local store for a complete refund, regardless of whether they have the receipt.
The allergy charity Anaphylaxis UK has been notified of the withdrawal and issued guidance to those at risk.
“We have been alerted by Lidl that it is recalling its Red Hen 4 Tempura Chicken Steaks from sale because they contain milk which is not correctly declared on the ingredient label,” the charity said.
“The product is therefore unsuitable for and should be avoided by anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk.”

Consumers with dairy allergies who have purchased these chicken steaks must avoid eating them and should promptly return the items to any Lidl outlet for a full refund.
The latest recall from the much-loved budget supermarket has followers its earlier recall of its new Harvest Basket Smiley Teddy Bears.
Following the discovery of mineral oil contamination during manufacturing, the retailer rendered the teddy bear-shaped snacks unsafe to eat.
