GB News secured a significant victory at the TRIC Awards on Tuesday night, with the channel’s breakfast show winning Best News Programme through public voting. The awards ceremony, held at Grosvenor House in London, saw winners determined by a million votes from the British public.

The People’s Channel claimed two awards in total, including a separate honour for Charlie Peters’s investigative journalism. Eamonn Holmes specifically highlighted Charlie’s work, stating on GB News: “Charlie Peters’s investigations into rape gangs across the country won him an award and I think rightly so.”

The victories came as part of the 2025 TRIC Awards, which celebrated talent across television, radio and online media. The event was hosted by TRIC President Dan Walker and featured close to 1,000 guests.

Eamonn launched a pointed critique of mainstream media outlets following the win, accusing them of harbouring prejudice against GB News.

“They just have this prejudice against you. They think we’re too diddly squat,” he said during the channel’s broadcast.

The fan-favourite suggested established media organisations had underestimated GB News’s chances in the public vote. “This was a people’s vote. They probably thought we would have little chance of getting this with the big, established votes,” Eamonn stated.

He directly challenged perceptions about declining news viewership, responding to claims that “news isn’t popular anymore” and that “TV figures are on the decline” with a firm “Au contraire.”

The awards represented a notable achievement for the relatively young news channel against more established competitors.

Eamonn and co-host Ellie Costello expressed gratitude to viewers for their support in securing the public-voted awards.

“It means so much more coming from a public vote, knowing you guys support us and back us and switch us on every morning,” Ellie said.

She described the personal connection viewers have with GB News presenters, noting: “I talk to people up and down the country who ask, ‘how’s Mark [White]? How’s Patrick [Christys] and how is Ben [Leo]?’ You talk to us like we’re your friends or family and that’s what we’re trying to create here.”

Eamonn emphasised the channel’s commitment to serving its audience, stating: “Whatever we’re doing, we’re doing what you watching and listening want to have and you think no one else is doing it for you.”
