Kat Dennings opened up about appearing in the beloved HBO series Sex and the City as a teenager.
On a recent episode of The View, the 38-year-old actress looked back on her guest role on the show, which saw her play Samantha Jones’ (Kim Cattrall) rich, bratty client, Jenny Brier, in season 3.
‘Well, it was very interesting because, of course, I wasn’t allowed to watch Sex and the City as a child,’ she told hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Sara Haines last week.
She noted that she was unfamiliar with the television series in general, adding, ‘We didn’t have cable even, our family, so, I really had no idea what the show was.’
‘So, I auditioned for it. I was like, “What a weird show. What a weird title.” And then on the way home, on the train, we saw a building — like, a Sex and the City billboard across the whole building,’ she recalled.
The former Two Broke Girls star continued, ‘And after I did that and I walked into, like, The Gap in Pennsylvania, people were like, “Oh my God, it’s Jenny Brier! Like, give her the employee discount!” I was getting discounts!’

Dennings starred in scenes with Cattrall as her character hired Samantha’s PR services — using her father’s money — to organize a star-studded bash for her bat mitzvah.
At one point, Jenny and her wise-beyond-their-years friends bump into Carrie, Samantha, and Miranda in a Manhattan restaurant, stunning the four women with how grown up (and explicit) they are.
In another moment, Jenny labels Samantha a ‘grandma’ when she lectures the teens about being ‘a little young’ for sex talk and tries to convince them to enjoy being kids while they can.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022, Dennings revealed that when the episode aired, her mom invited her friends over for a watch party.
But she quickly turned the TV off upon realizing her daughter’s character was talking openly about sex in some scenes.
Days ago Kat stopped by The View to promote her new ABC sitcom Shifting Gears, in which she stars alongside Tim Allen.
She plays the daughter Tim’s character in the multi-camera comedy pilot, which premiered last week.
The longtime entertainer is also a producer on the 20th Television production.

In Shifting Gears, Allen, 70, stars as Matt, ‘the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,’ per Deadline.
‘When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins,’ the synopsis teases.
Riley butted heads with her father growing up and left the family home to marry the boyfriend he hated.
‘Now divorced, Riley’s forced to move back home with two kids, hoping she and her dad can make it work this time,’ the log line adds.
The series is written by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, who also serve as executive producers along with Last Man Standing EPs Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina.
