Liverpool has been named the UK’s most generous city today, according to GoFundMe’s annual report.
The fundraising site’s ‘2024 Year in Help’ report looks back on the big campaigns from the last 12 months, with the company saying they saw two donations per second on average across the world, with the Merseyside city clinching the top spot in the UK.
Liverpool’s record-breaking generosity has been shown with huge fundraisers which came after the Southport attacks.
People across the region, and the nation, came together to raise more than £1.3million to support the families and communities impacted by the attacks and following riots.

“After Southport, people really came together and in times of crisis, GoFundMe is a place where people can come and pull together and action help.
“Even in times like the cost of living crisis, people are still donating to help others who are in more need than them!”
A fundraiser to rebuild Spellow Lane Library in the city also saw a massive £250,000 raised, with notable supporters ranging from Nigella Lawson to Terry Pratchett’s daughter, Rhianna.
