Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson received praised from his costar, Chris Evans, for his incredible generosity toward their crew while filming their new movie Red One.
While speaking about working with the successful wrestler-turned-actor, 52, Evans, 43, revealed that the international icon is an expert at boosting morale on set.
‘He does this thing on movie sets, at the end of the week the crew will all put in 5, 10 bucks in this little bucket. They get raffle tickets. It’s called “five-dollar Friday,”‘ he told People. ‘Someone draws a name at the end of the day and they win a couple-thousand bucks.’
Evans proceeded to marvel over how Johnson ‘would splash the pot in ways that no other actor can keep up with.’
‘As actors we’re like, “I’ll splash the pot. I’ll put in a chunk of change here. I’m not in the running for it,” but just a way to say thank you to the crew each week,’ the Captain America explained.
But, unlike anyone else he’s ever worked with, Evans revealed that Johnson would step in and and more than triple the giveaway pot.

The actor recalled one time when the giveaway pot was at 5,000, that Johnson raised it to 20,000, before repeatedly deciding to shell out even more cash for the crew.
‘This is crazy. I’m not exaggerating. [Johnson] was like, “Oh, well what’s the pot? Five grand? How about it’s called 20,”‘ Evans detailed. ‘So he picks a name and someone’s going crazy and he’s like, “Should we do it again? How about 40?” … I’m not exaggerating — the number got up big, and he pulled out five or six names.’
Evans noted that their crew was ‘just so excited to work for’ Johnson, who he pointed out ‘works just as hard back for them.’
Upon hearing Evans’ sweet remarks, Johnson said: ‘Well, I love that. Our crew is the backbone of our business, so you want to take care of them.’
Evans previously estimated that Johnson gave out a combined $100,000 to various crewmembers on set in a single day.
In April, Johnson was accused of showing up as many as eight hours late to the Red One set, which caused the film crew, at times, to have to shoot around him.
A source alleged to The Wrap that his chronic tardiness caused $50 million to be added to the budget of the film bringing it to a staggering total of $250 million.
Johnson finally addressed those rumors this week during his interview with GQ magazine.

‘Yeah, that happens. But not that amount, by the way. That was a bananas amount. That’s crazy. Ridiculous,’ he told the publication.
There were even claims to The Wrap that not only was the star an ‘average of seven or eight hours’ late per day, he also missed entire days of production leading to the production cost being upped by eight figures.
‘It was a f***ing disaster,’ one insider told The Wrap while another said: ‘Dwayne truly doesn’t give a f***.’
However, The Rock called the overall controversy ‘bulls***’ in the latest issue of GQ.
Evans backed Johnson to the publication as he said: ‘In terms of the guy that I saw, compared to some of the things I’ve seen on other movies with other actors who are not only not conscious of other people’s time and efforts, but they’re unpredictable?
‘I found Dwayne to be — we all know exactly what he’s going to do when he’s going to do it.’

As it has been said that Dwayne had often worked out in the mornings before coming on set, the 43-year-old actor Chris said that it was always understood it would be that way.
The Captain America star said: ‘But this is something that the producers, the director, and it’s all his team, so they all know this. So it’s all basic. It’s not like he’s late unexpectedly, and I wouldn’t even call it late.
‘He comes in slightly later on certain mornings, but it’s part of the plan. It’s worked into the schedules and everyone knows it, so he shows up when he’s scheduled to show up.’
Red One director Jake Kasdan also backed Dwayne and reinforced Chris’ claims as he said: ‘[Dwayne] never missed a day of work ever.
‘He has a lot going on. He can be late sometimes, but such is Hollywood — that’s the case with everybody. Honestly, I’ve made three big movies with him. I’ve never seen him be anything but great to every single person on the set.’

Back in April, a spokesperson for Amazon MGM – who are the film studio behind the film – responded with a firm denial to the allegations in the original report.
The studio representative told The Wrap: ‘Dwayne Johnson and [producer] Seven Bucks have been incredible partners on Red One—a film that audiences of all ages are going to love this holiday season.
‘Our testing has been very strong — the reaction from CinemaCon speaks for itself — and we couldn’t have made it without Dwayne’s constant work and support. Any reporting that implies that we got to this point with him showing up seven-eight hours late to set is both ridiculous and false.’
Two additional sources close to production also told the publication that Johnson had averaged no more than one hour late to set.
