Lidl’s has launched its 2024 Christmas advert, “A Magical Christmas”, and Britons are delighted.
The one-minute clip, which infuses magic with a message about good will, has garnered lots of positive attention on social media.
In Lidl’s Christmas advert, a little girl helps an elderly woman who has dropped her bag of shopping. To say thank you, the old lady gifts her with a magic bell and tells her to make a wish when it shakes.
Later, around the Christmas dinner table, festive magic ensues as the bell rings, resulting in the appearance of some furry friends, a giant gingerbread man – and Brussels sprouts that turn into biscuits.
One Lidl customer said: ‘This is what Christmas is all about’

The little girl decides to use her wish to send a present – a warm woolly Lidl hat – to a young boy who is feeling lonely this Christmas. This is accompanied by a message from Lidl that while it’s important to “dream big”, “is it not more Christmassy to give?”.
The advert comes to a close with the message: “A magical Christmas with Lidl. Gift a toy to Lidl’s Toy Bank and share the magic.”
Lidl shoppers stormed social media platforms with praise for the sweet advert.
One X user revealed that it certainly pulled on their heartstrings, commenting: “First Christmas advert that got me!” Another seconded this: “Just saw the advert on TV. Very sweet indeed.”
Over on Instagram, one Lidl customer said: “Bring a tear to a glass eye. This is what Christmas is all about. Well done Lidl, you can have my festive pounds and a toy will be donated.”
Another shopper declared: “What a magical advert.” To this, the supermarket replied: “Christmas with Lidl is magical.”
A third was prompted to give this season, commenting: “Thanks for the reminder about the toy collection.”
Food blog uknewestfoods exclaimed: “Goosebumps and tears!” Another social media user said: “Well done @lidlgb, love this!”

Of course, while some Lidl customers got into the festive spirit, others commented that it’s far too soon to be launching Christmas adverts.
One X user said: “Christmas is in December, not November.” Another said: “Too soon.”
A third commented: “Lidl, bestie, it’s literally November.” To this, the supermarket replied: “You can never be too early.”
Lidl isn’t the only supermarket to spread some festive cheer this November though.
