In case the stressors and rigors of Election Day weren’t enough for those living in the United States, a further major event is taking place on the same day: the NFL Trade Deadline.
After a lengthy election season featuring debates, nearly endless campaigning, assassination attempts, and a candidate switch, ballots are being cast today that will decide the future of the country for at least the next four years.
Not nearly as dragged out – but to some, just as important – the NFL’s Trade Deadline Day will also be monumental for the 32 teams in the country’s most popular sport.
The collision of the two events has led to plenty of reaction across social media both with tongue-in-cheek jokes as well as people in awe of everything happening.
‘Big day today everyone. Future is going to be changed one way or another. No matter what happens, let’s just try to stay positive. Understand a lot of time and energy has gone into this, but at the end of the day we’re gonna have to live with the results of the NFL trade deadline,’ wrote one user on X, formerly Twitter.
The American Presidential Election cycle will finally come to an anticipated end on Tuesday
Tuesday is also the NFL Trade Deadline, causing many football fans to make jokes on Twitter
‘NFL trade deadline, Election Day, First College Football Playoff rankings, Champions League, this might be the best day in Twitter history,’ wrote another user.
Comedian Gary Owen posted, ‘How is NFL trade deadline the same day as the election? I care about who’s President. I care more about what DE the Bengals are going to pick up!!’
Football news aggregator MLFootball posted, ‘TODAY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY IN OUR COUNTRIES HISTORY BECAUSE THE #NFL TRADE DEADLINE. Which ends at 4 PM, is critical. EXPECT A BUSY DEADLINE, AS MULTIPLE CONTENDERS HAVE HAD SERIOUS TALKS REGARDING MAJOR TRADES ACROSS THE LEAGUE. SHOULD BE A VERY FUN ONE.’
‘This is such an important day in American history. The NFL trade deadline and first release of the College Football Playoff rankings on the same day. Wow,’ joked Dolphins beat reporter David Furones.
Another user joked, ‘what a tuesday in america. maction returns. college hoops is back. CFP rankings release tonight. NFL trade deadline.’
So far in the NFL Trade Deadline, a number of names have swapped places.
The biggest names among them are New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore going to the Washington Commanders and New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams.
