- The Titans are just 7-17 since Ran Carthon took over as general manager last year
- But the former undrafted free agent asked fans to ‘stay with us’ on Sunday
The Titans were trounced 52-14 by the Lions on Sunday to move to 1-6 on the season, and Tennessee fans did not appreciate the remarks of GM Ran Carthon afterwards.
Speaking to The Tennessean, Carthon – who is in his second year as the franchise’s general manager – preached patience to the fanbase and even said ‘you can’t predict which way the ball bounces’ after the 38-point loss.
Those comments were poorly received by Titans fans, who slammed the 43-year-old on X as a result.
‘This guy doesn’t need to make anymore statements. His comments are as embarrassing as the team’s play,’ one fan said.
‘The ball didn’t bounce our way’ brother you lost by 38,’ another mockingly added.

Tennessee lost 52-14 to Detroit for their third-straight defeat, dropping their record to 1-6
‘This GM is a joke,’ a third fan said. ‘There is no accountability from the owner down. 52-14 is not a ball bouncing the wrong way. It’s incompetence. The whole front office needs fired, such as [president of football operations] Chris Brinker and Ran.’
‘Jesus christ are you freaking kidding me,’ a fourth added. ‘This guy is so incompetent. He has got to go.’
Carthon was hired by the Titans in January 2023, and while it was not his decision to fire previous coach Mike Vrabel, the team has struggled since.
Tennessee is just 7-17 since the beginning of last season and quarterback Will Levis – drafted under Carthon last year – was out of the starting lineup this weekend in favor of Mason Rudolph (Levis is dealing with a shoulder injury, but also played last weekend).
Rudolph threw two interceptions in the loss and Carthon encouraged fans to stay with us’ afterwards.
‘We understand your frustration,’ he told The Tennessean. ‘We’re frustrated too. But we’re working diligently every day to get the next one. That’s what we’re going to do.
‘For us to come in and have to flip the roster the way you have to to get it to a competitive point, and not be able to see the Ws in the win column, we understand. We understand the fanbase’s frustration. But I promise you we’re working as hard as we can to fix it and get it right.’
Will Levis, who was drafted in 2023 under Carthon, has not been working out at quarterback
He added, ‘From that standpoint, God only made so many talented football players. There’s only so many good football players that are available to you on the street. So if you’re not in the market for trading for them, then you have to keep churning the roster, keep working out guys.’
Carthon, an undrafted free agent in 2004, previously told his feel-good story to the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, as he said he used to take workouts with teams just to meet their GMs.
Of course, he’s now in that seat himself and facing pressure from Titans fans.
Tennessee will look to snap a three-game losing streak next weekend vs. the Patriots.
