Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff voiced his outrage on Wednesday evening after Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders suggested that his wife was not ‘humble’ because she did not give birth to any children of her own.
Emhoff appeared at a fundraiser in Brooklyn with his daughter Ella Emhoff and filmmaker Spike Lee where the second gentleman escalated his rhetoric beyond his typical nice-guy demeanor.
‘This one is unbelievable,’ Emhoff began. ‘They said that somehow because Cole and Ella aren’t Kamala’s quote unquote biological children that she doesn’t have anything in her life to keep her humble.’
Ella Emhoff looked at her father as she smiled and clapped at his fiery response.
‘As if keeping women humble, whether you have children or not is something we should strive for,’ Emhoff said, raising his voice. ‘It is not!’

Gov. Sanders made her remark during a campaign event with former President Donald Trump in Michigan, where she spoke about her children reminding her what was really important and also keeping her humble.
‘My kids keep me humble, unfortunately Kamala Harris doesn’t have anything keeping her humble,” Sanders said. ‘You would think after four years of straight failure, she would know a little humility.’
Harris is Emhoff’s second wife, and a stepmother to Emhoff’s two children Ella and Cole that he had with his first wife Kerstin.
Emhoff said the remark was just one more example how Trump and his campaign surrogates were trying to gaslight female supporters of Kamala Harris.

Supporters of Kamala Harris were infuriated after Sanders suggested that Harris did not have any children keeping her humble
‘There is nothing more important to me, Kamala, and Kirsten than our kids, our big beautiful blended family,’ he said. ‘We know that all parents, no matter how you become one make the same sacrifices and revel in the same joys as raising children as any parent any where.’
Harris frequently talks about her title as ‘Mamala,’ for her stepchildren as she jokes that thanks to Disney movies, the word stepmother has a bad connotation.
Doug Emhoff voiced his outrage at the remarks, but reassured the crowd that Harris was not phased by any of it.
‘None of this really affects Kamala, everything really just bounces off of her,’ he said.
Emhoff’s daughter Ella did not speak at the fundraiser, but her father reached out and gave her a side hug during his speech as he spoke about abortion rights.
‘Ella’s here, I love you Ella,’ he said.
Spike Lee followed up Emhoff’s remarks by praising Harris.
‘We’re married to two strong sisters!’ He said with a laugh as he gripped hands with Emhoff. ‘Will you admit this? Sometimes too strong?’
