A man has been shot near the Royal Artillery Barracks in London, resulting in an urgent manhunt.
The victim, a man in his 30s, has been left with serious head injuries, and was airlifted to hospital.
The incident occurred on Frances Street, Woolwich, at around 8pm last night.
No arrests have been made as of yet.
The Met said: “Officers attended and found a man, aged in his 30s, suffering from gunshot wounds.
“They performed first aid until the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance arrived.
“The man was taken to an east London hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“Firearms officers and specialist crime detectives attended the scene.”
The shooting is not believed to be linked to the Royal Artillery Barracks.
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 8.13pm on Thursday, October 22, to reports of a shooting at the junction of Frances Street and Ogilby Street, Woolwich.
“We sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, a paramedic from our tactical response unit, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.
“We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated a man for a head injury and took him to hospital as a priority.”
Anyone with any information has been urged to call police on 101 or, if wanting to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The Royal Artillery Barracks in south-east London was built between 1774 and 1802, and served as the headquarters of the Royal Regiment of Artillery until 2007.
Currently, it houses an estimated 700 personnel, including the King’s Troops and the Royal Horse Artillery.
The Ministry of Defence has scheduled the site for closure in 2028, however.
It is anticipated to be used for future housing and community spaces.
