LATEST FROM THE SOUTH WEST:
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist with further investigations.
A student called Jimmy from St Peter’s High School, which takes students aged 11 to 18, said the incident was “really scary” and that his heart was racing throughout the shocking incident.
Speaking to the BBC, he recounted how students were forced to stay inside classrooms for two to three hours while emergency services responded to the report.
The school alarm rang out while computer screens showed a message saying: “This is a lockdown.”
The 15-year-old said: “The computers are not accessible at all and we’ve all had to turn the lights off, lock the doors, turn all the blinds down, and we’ve had to get on the ground.”
Alan, who has a daughter at St Peter’s High School, told the BBC he felt frightened despite receiving a text message from his child confirming she was safe.
“I don’t think this should happen at school. Thank God she is safe,” he said.
The force later instructed all pupils to be sent home on Friday while the officers began the manhunt.
Willow Primary Academy is also understood to have been put into lockdown as officers continued to assess the incident.
