Zooey Deschanel and fiancé Jonathan Scott have yet to ‘figure out’ wedding plans after getting engaged 16 months earlier in August 2023.
The New Girl actress, 44, said ‘yes’ after the Property Brothers star, 46, popped the big question at Edinburgh Castle – but the pair have been too busy to sit down and make concrete plans for their upcoming nuptials.
While recently speaking to People, Scott jokingly admitted, ‘I can guarantee you we have done absolutely 0% more work.’
‘We’ve just had a lot of things going on. Maybe that’ll be my New Year’s resolution – we’ve got to get this wedding figured out.’
However, the couple – who first crossed paths in 2019 – have a few ideas for that the special day could possibly look like.
Last year in June 2024, Jonathan shared that both he and Deschanel want a ‘kicka** party’ with their loved ones.

During an interview with Us Weekly at the time, the TV personality stated, ‘The ceremony and the pomp and circumstance, we’ll get that out of the way, and then it’s the reception. It’s going to be a blast.’
He also shared that they ‘haven’t actually’ picked out a date for the wedding but shared, ‘We’re working on it, and I think our goal is to keep it intimate.’
Scott – who has a twin brother Drew – also reflected that if he had met Zooey years earlier, their relationship may not have worked out.
‘Zooey and I were very different people. I mean, we’ve both been married before, but even when we were younger, you’re looking for different things, and who knows what we were looking for at that time?’
A few months earlier in November, Jonathan was joined by his brother Drew while talking to Collider about their series Don’t Hate Your House With The Property Brothers.
At one point, the topic of his impending nuptials was brought up and Jonathan humorously said of both himself and Zooey: ‘We are useless.’
‘No, we have no updates. We haven’t done any yet. Maybe that should be my New Year’s resolution. We’ve got to get it figured out.’
Drew then cut in to add, ‘I’m not allowed to make any vacation plans until they figure that out, because I guarantee if I’m like, “Okay, I’m finally gonna book this vacation,” then John will be like, “That’s the date.”‘

Deschanel first crossed paths with Jonathan back in August 2019 while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke.
Only a few months later, the couple went Instagram official with their budding romance.
In November of that year, the 500 Days Of Summer actress and the TV personality made their red carpet debut while attending the Critic’s Choice Documentary Awards together.
The pair then took the next big step in their relationship by becoming engaged when Jonathan popped the big question during a family getaway to Scotland in August 2023.
That month, she took to her main Instagram page to flash the stunning ring while announcing the big news to her fans and followers.
‘Forever starts now!!!’ Deschanel excitedly wrote in the caption, and received congratulatory messages in the comment section from other celebrities and social media users.
Shortly before their engagement, the couple celebrated their fourth anniversary and the Elf actress shared a cute snap of the two as they stood closely together and flashed big smiles towards the camera.
During an interview with Page Six, Scott revealed that he had become a ‘blubbering mess’ during the proposal in Edinburgh.

Deschanel shares her children with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik. They were married from 2015 until their split in 2019. The following year, their divorce was finalized.
‘We were on a family trip with the kids and I had planned it all in advance, for doing the tour and everything. And then at the end, we cleared the castle,’ Jonathan recalled.
‘We were in Edinburgh Castle and we were the last people on the property. I had it set up so they said, “Oh, there’s a pipe band playing. You want to go listen?” Yeah, great.’
He added, ‘We went up to this beautiful bluff overlooking the city, and this pipe band is playing.’
‘And then all of a sudden, a guitar steps forward and started playing Neil Young, our song, Harvest Moon.’
‘And [Zooey]’s like, “Wait, what?” And then the kids pulled up a banner that said, “Will you marry me?” the HGTV star revealed to the outlet.

He continued, ‘She cried and she said “yes.” And I’m a blubbering mess. Like the wedding is going to be a disaster because I will not be able to get through.’
Scott has also previously opened up about co-parenting Zooey’s kids with her ex, Jacob Pechenik.
During a past interview with Today, he stated, ‘I always knew I would be a great dad – former clown, magician, I can build stuff – and it’s been incredible.’
‘You see your life transform, your priorities become your kids, and when they have a performance that they’re doing at school, or working on some of their homework, or whatever it might be, it’s a joy…’

Zooey was also previously married to Death Cab for Cutie lead vocalist Ben Gibbard from 2009 through 2012.
Jonathan had been married once to Kelsy Ully from 2007 until their divorce in 2013.
Despite Scott and Deschanel still needing to make wedding plans, the lovebirds have been filtering through a busy schedule and have also made appearances at recent events.
Last month in December, the pair put on stylish displays as the cozied up on the red carpet during the Hollywood premiere of A Complete Unknown.
