How to plan your visit to Windsor Castle once it reopens this month

Hundreds of thousands of people queued up to see her lying in state in Westminster Hall, while millions of people tuned in to watch her funeral at Westminster Abbey.

Once Windsor Castle reopens to the public, many mourners will want to visit St George’s Chapel to pay their respects to the late queen.

When does Windsor Castle reopen and what are its opening hours?

Windsor Castle will reopen to visitors on Thursday September 29, but the Platinum Jubilee display will remain closed.

It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Between March 1 and October 31, the castle opens at 10am. The last admission is 4pm and the castle closes at 5.15pm.

Between November 1 and February 28, the castle opens at 10am and closes at 4.15pm, with the last admission at 3pm.

Where is Windsor Castle and how can you get there from London?

Windsor Castle is in Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 1NJ. There isn’t a car park at the castle, so visitors need to use public car parks in the town centre.

The nearest train stations to Windsor Castle are Windsor and Eton Central or Windsor and Eton Riverside. Trains depart from London Paddington and London Waterloo.

There is also a Green Line 702 bus service from the Greenline Coach Station, which is near Victoria Station in London.

How much are tickets to Windsor Castle and where can you buy them?

Tickets to Windsor Castle cost £26.50 for adults and £17.50 for young adults (18-24). Children’s tickets cost £14.50 while children under five years old go free. Tickets for people with disabilities also cost £14.50. They are available from the castle’s website.

Adult tickets cost £2 more on Saturdays, and all other tickets cost £1 more on Saturdays.

Where is St George’s Chapel and how can you see the Queen’s resting place?

St George’s Chapel is within the grounds of Windsor Castle. This is where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are buried, alongside 10 other monarchs.

St George’s Chapel is open on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday but is not open to visitors on Sundays, as there will be services all day.
