A group of travellers are believed to have broken the locks to gain entrance to a London park as several caravans have pitched up at the site.

Travellers have descended upon Coldfall Wood in the suburb of Muswell Hill, north London, where houses can fetch multi-millions.

Coldwall Wood is popular among dog walkers and families, with forest schools held there for youngsters.

Residents posted to social media to warn that travellers had been spotted at the park, with some suggesting it was not the first time they had been there.

“Yes travellers are back, this time with a horse, more horses to follow no doubt. Dog walkers take note,” an anonymous Facebook post read.

Another person wrote: “Just a heads up that we have visitors on the playing field.

“Not sure how they get in, well, I can guess…”

Retired teacher Deb Garcha, aged 63, said the community are “confused and fed up” that travellers were back at the park.

She told the Daily Mail: “I can’t let my dog off the leash because he might be interested in a horse and the horse might kick him or something.

“So it just means you can’t go do the big loop around the green with the dog.”

Another person claimed residents had previously held meetings with the local councillor about the issue but they were told “the council needs more resources”.

A Haringey Council spokesperson said it was monitoring the situation “closely”.

“The council is aware of an unauthorised encampment on land at Muswell Hill Playing Fields,” they said.

“We attended the site as soon as we were notified on Tuesday morning.

“Standard welfare checks have been undertaken, and a notice of eviction has been issued today.

“We’re continuing to monitor this situation closely.”

Travellers have also been spotted in the leafy London suburb of Ealing Common, where properties are valued at as much as £4.3million.
