Three children have been rushed to hospital after a bus collided with a railway bridge in Wales.
Gwent Police said officers were alerted to the crash in Tregare Street, Newport, at around 7.45am this morning.
Newport council confirmed the bus served a Welsh‑medium secondary school, Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed on Duffryn Way.
The authority said it was working with emergency services to “ensure the well-being of those involved in the collision”.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service attended the scene, with the road remaining closed while diversions are in place.
The pupils’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, but they have been taken to hospital for treatment.
Eyewitness accounts of the aftermath describe the roof of the double-decker bus completely sheared off and left on the road.
Transport for Wales warned of rail service disruptions until around 11am, with some trains cancelled in both directions between Newport and Hereford.
