One of the most important things for people trying to reduce their blood sugar levels is their diet and what foods they are consuming.
There are several factors which can influence blood sugar levels, including body weight, stress, genetics and exercise. However, what foods we consume can benefit people wanting to regulate their blood sugar levels, particularly in the morning.
The Slimming Clinic dietiatian Sarah Abdula said: “Anyone wishing to reduce blood sugar levels should try to reduce or avoid foods with added sugar in and also refined carbohydrates.”
She shared three breakfast foods which are excellent in reducing blood sugar levels.

The expert said: “Eggs are a great breakfast choice for helping to reduce blood glucose levels. They are low in calories and high in protein.
“The protein in eggs can help to slow the absorption of glucose, which helps to regulate blood sugar levels after the meal and during the day.
“The yolk also contains antioxidants and nutrients which are beneficial for health. Research suggests eggs can help to boost metabolic activity and make you feel fuller for longer, making them an ideal choice for people wishing to lose weight too.”
Porridge
Despite facing a new “junk food” ban, porridge has many benefits in reducing blood glucose levels.
Sarah said: “Porridge is made of oats which, although they contain carbohydrates, the soluble fibre content of oats means that they can help to lower blood sugar levels.”
The expert recommended adding pumpkin seeds for an extra crunch and to further help reduce blood sugar levels.
She said: “In many countries, pumpkin is used as a diabetes remedy. It’s packed with antioxidants and fibre and is great for helping to regulate blood sugar levels. Pumpkin seeds especially contain high levels of healthy fats and protein and can help to support healthy blood sugar levels.”

Peanut butter on multigrain toast
The third food Sarah advised to incorporate into your diet is peanut butter on multigrain toast.
The dietitian said: “Peanut butter contains healthy fats which are believed to help slow the release of sugar into the blood, helping to prevent the blood sugar spikes that we see after some foods. Opt for a natural peanut butter without added sugar and multigrain for optimal impact on blood glucose levels.”
Sarah added the evidence is minimal for certain supplements to help people reduce their blood sugar levels and she emphasised following diet plans which have a successful track record.
She advised: “You would be better off altering your dietary intake as this has been proven to work.”
