Rebecca Maddern’s long-time Seven News Melbourne co-host Mike Amor was forced to miss her emotional farewell over the weekend, after contracting an illness.
Maddern, 47, bid farewell to her old gig on Sunday in an emotional TV farewell, but was not accompanied by her long-time co-anchor Amor, 57.
Amor later took to Instagram to express his sadness for not being able to be by his colleague’s side as she said goodbye, and revealed he unexpectedly fell ill.
‘Bummed I didn’t get to share my desk one last Sunday with my mate Rebecca. Bloody whooping cough left me watching on the couch,’ Mike began.
‘Thanks for all the laughs in the ad breaks – and occasional controversy.’
Maddern’s final show went off without a hitch and she later took to social media to thank her team for supporting her since she stepped into the role in January 2022.

However, Bec will stay with the network, and is moving up the ladder – taking on a top job with 7News in 2025.
The respected sports journalist has been appointed as Seven’s chief sports presenter, it was confirmed last month.
On Sunday, she bid farewell to her old gig in an emotional post to Instagram.
‘That’s a wrap! For the past three years I’ve been working weekends delivering @7news at 6pm,’ she wrote.
‘It’s been so much fun to work alongside @mikeoz7 @abbeygelmi @soniamarinelli and I’m very proud of the product we have put to air,’ she continued.
‘There are so many producers, directors, journalists, autocue operators, makeup girls who I would like to say thankyou to, for spending Saturdays and Sundays with me.
‘To all of the viewers, thank you so much for watching us! It really is such a great team. I’m not going far, in fact I’ll be sitting at the same desk, just in another chair leading the wonderful sports team Mon – Fri in 2025.
‘Thank you to my wonderful weekend team. Merry Christmas and have a happy and safe New Year’.

She wont be going far – her newly created role will see Maddern present Seven Melbourne’s nightly sport report.
‘I have always worked across both sport and news and in fact my very first job was in sport at Triple M when I was very, very junior,’ she told the Herald Sun in a statement.
‘This role is really a great fit for me. Sport gives you a chance to get out of the office a little bit more, travel, connect with sports fans, which I love, so the role is very appealing across the board. I am really looking forward to it,’ Maddern continued.
‘I have been fortunate to have many different roles across my career in media and I think every opportunity brings me that chance to be reinvigorated and bring all those years of experience to it.’
Maddern was the co-presenter of 7News at 6pm on weekends alongside Mike Amor.
The network’s new presenter, Karina Carvalho, who recently joined from ABC, is a potential candidate to take over Maddern’s weekend role.
