Tottenham player ratings: Richarlison careless, Son way off the pace

The visitors had the better of the openings against the Europa League winners but were too often let down by their final ball and finish, as their stuttering form on the road in Europe continued.

Dan Kilpatrick was at Deutsche Bank Park to rate the Spurs players…

Hugo Lloris 7

Quick off his line to snuff out danger even if his clearances were erratic. Made a smart stop to deny Ansgar Knauff in his only significant involvement.

Cristian Romero 6

Unusually shaky at playing out from the back, putting Bentancur in trouble before a Jesper Lindstrom chance.

Eric Dier 7

Failed to deal with a couple of high balls but there to snuff out danger when most needed.

Clement Lenglet 7

Looked most comfortable of the back three in an assured display. Occasionally got forward to overlap Perisic.

Emerson Royal 6

Spurs’ most frequent outlet in the first half, and was involved in their best moves. Still rarely looks capable of delivering a final ball, and faded after the interval.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 7

Tactically disciplined, often dropping to join the centre-halves, and busy with and without the ball.

Rodrigo Bentancur 7

Carried the ball well and joined Hojbjerg at occasionally dropping back to allow the wing-backs to get forward. One hairy moment when he was caught in possession from Romero’s hospital pass.

Ivan Perisic 6

Saw a deflected effort dribble past the post in the first half but otherwise quiet on his return to Germany, and hooked for Sessegnon for the final 20 minutes.

Richarlison 5

Clunky and careless in possession, but did create a couple of chances for Son.

Heung-min Son 5

Final ball and touch were missing on another difficult night for the Korean but he was lively. Squandered a good first-half chance to set up Kane, and fired a couple of efforts wide.

Harry Kane 5

Went close with a low drive in the first half but not at his best on the ball or in the final third.

Ryan Sessegnon (Perisic 70’) 6

Got in some good positions and nearly set up Son with a low cross.

Ben Davies (Lenglet 78’) 6

Returned from injury for the final 15 minutes and looked solid.

Bryan Gil (Richarlison 78’) 6

Looked lively on his first Spurs appearance since January 23.

Not used: Forster, Austin, Doherty, Skipp, Sanchez, Spence, Sarr, Bissouma, White.
