Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have been among the biggest spenders all summer but, on the final day of the transfer window, could all make further signings. The Gunners want to further bolster their midfield and have made two bids for Douglas Luiz, but will not be signing Danilo after exploring that deal. Hector Bellerin is in talks with Barcelona over a free transfer.
Chelsea have agreed a deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Marcos Alonso heading to Barcelona in a player-plus-cash arrangement. The Blues have also bid for Ajax defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez and, for the second time, been offered PSG superstar Neymar.
Tottenham have opted against signing Dan James, with Fulham now set to loan the Leeds man, but could land Manchester City starlet Adedire Mebude. Bryan Gil will only leave if a replacement is found. New offer for Douglas Luiz
The race for Douglas Luiz is hotting up with Arsenal making a second bid for the Aston Villa midfielder.
The Athletic report on another offer coming up as Luiz looks to leave Villa Park ahead of his contract expiring next summer.
This one could go down to the wire!
Neymar going nowhere
Sky Sports are reporting that Neymar is not going to sign for Chelsea today – surprise, surprise.
A shock move for the PSG star had been touted yet the French club are not keen on selling Neymar on deadline day.
It had been claimed that FFP issues were forcing Les Parisiens to offer the Brazilian forward around.
West Ham miss out on Bednarek
No dice for West Ham in their pursuit of Jan Bednarek.
The Athletic report on the Polish defender agreeing to join Aston Villa on loan despite Southampton agreeing to send him to London Stadium.
Standard Sport’s Malik Ouzia writes: “News that Jan Bednarek is headed for Aston Villa is bad news for West Ham but also, at this stage, bad news for Wolves because West Ham are insisting at the moment that Craig Dawson will not be allowed to leave the club unless they can secure a replacement.”
Barcelona confirm striker departure
Barcelona have announced the exit of a striker as what was a fairly surprising tenure at the Camp Nou comes to an expected end.
Yes, Martin Braithwaite’s contract has been terminated.
Who else did you think I meant?
West Ham’s Aina bid rejected
We understand West Ham’s bid for Ola Aina has been rejected.
Malik Ouzia reports that West Ham are weighing up whether to make an improved bid as they push to sign a new right-back before tonight’s transfer deadline.
A signing in the position would allow the Hammers to sanction the departure of youngster Harrison Ashby, who is wanted by Newcastle as back-up to Kieran Trippier.
Aina, who was born in London and came through Chelsea’s youth ranks, joined Torino in 2018, initially on loan, before making the switch permanent the following summer.
West Ham lodge Aina bid
West Ham are exploring a deal for former Chelsea wing-back Ola Aina.
A bid of £3.45million, plus a further £3.45m in add-ons, has been sent to Torino, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Serie A club are asking for slightly more to sanction the sale of a player who spent time on loan at Fulham two seasons ago.
Done deal! Bournemouth sign Stephens
Bournemouth have completed the loan signing of Jack Stephens from fellow south coast side Southampton.
Centre-back Stephens has joined the Cherries on a season-long deal after falling down the pecking order at Saints.
Neill Blake, Bournemouth’s chief executive, said: “We’re very pleased to bring Jack to the club and he strengthens our defensive options.
“He brings with him significant Premier League experience and I’m sure will prove a very valuable addition both on and off the pitch.”
Ronaldo is staying put
It’s all been a bit quiet on the Cristiano Ronaldo front today, given he’s desperate to leave Manchester United.
Well, he is with the squad tonight for their game against Leicester City. I don’t think even Jorges Mendes could engineer a move away now.
Ronaldo is staying put.
Newcastle want West Ham defender
Newcastle are interested in signing West Ham right-back Harrison Ashby before tonight’s deadline as they seek back-up for Kieran Trippier, writes Malik Ouzia.
Ashby is in the final year of his contract and yet to agree a new deal but the Hammers are undecided about allowing the youngster to leave, given full-back Ben Johnson is out injured at the moment.
Should they agree to an exit for Ashby, we could yet see West Ham make a late move for a right-back. One to keep an eye on.
Bellerin to join Barca on a free
Arsenal have agreed to send Hector Bellerin to Barcelona on a free, but will hold a sell-on clause for any future sale, writes Simon Collings.
The deal should go through before tonight’s deadline.
