A “suspicious bag” that caused police to evacuate offices and shops as they shut down part of a city centre turned out to be full of singing equipment.

People were evacuated from offices near Spinningfields and a cordon was put in place after emergency services were called to Bridge Street.

The abandoned bag was analysed by officers who found no suspicious contents, but a microphone and some other music gear, Greater Manchester Police said.

Roads have since reopened as the cordon was removed.
