Sarah Ferguson is in a very bad way after losing her Duchess of York title, a source has claimed.

The insider backed Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s ex-wife to reinvent herself after the former couple had their royal titles removed.

The source told The Telegraph: “She’s in a very bad way, but she’ll dust herself down and attempt to reinvent herself again somehow.”

Last week, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson made their first public appearance since losing their York titles.

The pair are attending the christening of their granddaughter Athena at Clarence House this morning.

The baptism took place at the Chapel Royal within St James’s Palace, where Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, gathered close relatives and friends to celebrate their second daughter.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson’s presence at the ceremony represented a significant moment as their first at any royal function since they lost their York titles in October.

Beatrice, 37, and property developer Mapelli Mozzi, 42, welcomed Athena earlier this year after she was born several weeks before her due date in January.

The former Duke and Duchess of York lost their titles in October following fresh disclosures regarding their connections to Jeffrey Epstein.

The christening had reportedly been delayed from earlier this year due to the scandal surrounding Athena’s grandparents.

Beatrice is understood to have maintained a close bond with her mother, Sarah, throughout the Epstein turbulence, though her relationship with her father has become considerably more difficult.

Andrew steered clear of photographers and will be absent from any official images taken at the event.

Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi marked their daughter Athena’s christening with a trip to a Marylebone pub alongside loved ones following the ceremony.

A source said: “Beatrice is determined to keep the focus entirely on her daughter.”

Two notable absences from the pub gathering were Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, who had attended the christening itself but chose not to continue to the celebration.

Rather than joining relatives afterwards, the pair returned to their more withdrawn existence away from public royal engagements.
