The Royal Navy’s newest Astute-class nuclear-powered submarine has arrived at its home port in Scotland.
HMS Agamemnon will undergo sea trials and operational preparation after reaching HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane.
The hunter-killer vessel, the sixth in the Navy’s arsenal, is equipped with tomahawk land-attack missiles and torpedoes capable of striking targets up to 30 miles away.
The Navy’s submarine rear admiral, Andy Perks, described HMS Agamemnon’s arrival as a “significant milestone”.
The 318ft-long (97m) vessel joins other Astute-class subs including HMS Astute, Ambush, Artful, Audacious and Anson, in the Navy’s fleet.
A seventh sub, HMS Achilles, is currently under construction.
Astute-class submarines are the Navy’s most advanced and powerful class of attack subs.
