Riley also said the night before Elvis died, she had a ‘sense’ he would not be around much longer.
An Oprah Special: The Presleys—Elvis, Lisa Marie, and Riley will air on @cbstv on Tuesday, October 8 at 8 PM EST.
Oprah begins in the clip: ‘The morning of Elvis’ death your mother woke up and knew instinctively that something was off. You want to tell us about that? She’s nine years old and most of us remember when we were nine years old.’
Keough, who wore a white dress, said, ‘Yeah, definitely. I think this is the first time she’s ever talked in detail about his death in the book.
‘She said goodnight to him and I think she knew saying “goodnight: like she had some kind of a sense – I think she had a sense many times that he wasn’t okay.
‘She would tell me that sometimes she would find him in his bathroom looking kind of out of it or holding onto the railing to stand up straight.’
And Lisa Marie documented her worries.
‘She also write these letters when she was little that we have kind of saying, “I hope my daddy doesn’t die.”‘
The letter was shown during the Oprah interview teaser.
‘So there was some kind of sense there.’
After Riley confirmed the house was full of chaos, she added, ‘But upstairs was only her and her dad. I think she got a lot of intimate time up there with him. No one else was up there.’
Lisa Marie died at age of 54 of a small-bowel obstruction that developed after she’d undergone bariatric surgery several years prior.
This comes after Keough shared a sweet Instagram post about her mother.

‘I feel very proud and in awe of my mother, she somehow lived in honesty and truth all the time, no matter how uncomfortable that was for her or the people around her,’ wrote the star in her caption.
‘It was a really aspirational quality and just being around it was liberating.
‘This is also how she approached her autobiography. I know her intention was to tell a human story and connect to people in telling it. I feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to finish it for her.’
She ended her note with: ‘FROM HERE TO THE GREAT UNKNOWN is officially out in five days, on 10/8 ♥️’
A look at the book cover with Lisa Marie as a child with her dad Elvis Presley
Lisa Marie is the daughter of rock icon Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla Presley.
She was also wed to the King of Pop Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage.
Keough – whose father is Lisa Marie’s former husband Danny Keough – was promoting Lisa Marie’s memoir, From Here To The Great Unknown.
It will be published by Pan MacMillan on October 8, 2024.
Presley asked Keough to assist her with the writing of the memoir in 2022, shortly before her death. It will feature the late star’s unheard Interviews.
Riley will also narrate part of the audiobook along with movie star Julia Roberts.
The audiobook will also feature never-before-heard selections from Lisa Marie’s tape recordings.
The books is about growing up as the daughter of rock king Elvis and actress Priscilla Presley.
‘Because my mother was Elvis Presley’s daughter, she was constantly talked about, argued over and dissected,’ Riley told People.
‘What she wanted to do in her memoir, and what I hope I’ve done in finishing it for her, is to go beneath the magazine headline idea of her and reveals the core of who she was.
‘To turn her into a three-dimensional human being: the best mother, a wild child, a fierce friend, an underrated artist, frank, funny, traumatized, joyous, grieving, everything that she was throughout her remarkable life.
‘I want to give voice to my mother in a way that eluded her while she was alive.’
