Queen Camilla will not be able to “forgive easily” some of Prince Harry’s “extremely unkind” comments about her in the wake of his meeting with King Charles.

During last week’s trip to the UK, the Duke of Sussex was reunited with his estranged father for the first time in over a year and a half.

The “private tea” shared by the King and his youngest lasted just under an hour but has supercharged hopes of a reconciliation between the pair.

Harry’s declaration that Charles was “great” and his spokesman’s comment that he “loved being back in the UK” only fuelled the speculation.

However, Queen Camilla was not present alongside her husband when he met Harry at Clarence House.

Instead, she had remained at Balmoral Castle in Scotland while the King had jetted down to the capital to meet his son.

Hopes of relations thawing between the duke and his stepmother still appear rather distant, with his bruising public statements about her apparently still stinging.

“He has been extremely unkind to her in print and in word, and she doesn’t forgive easily,” a royal source said.

Their analysis was corroborated by a close friend of King Charles, who suggested the Royal Family would take time to embrace Harry again.

“The royal family make elephants look like they have short memories,” they told The Sunday Times.

Charles’s ally intimated that while the Firm may forgive Harry in time, few will be able to forget some of his comments.

Since stepping down as a working royal with Meghan Markle in 2020, the Duke of Sussex has made several critical statements about the Royal Family in media appearances and in his 2023 memoir, Spare.

During a 2023 60 Minutes interview promoting Spare, Harry described Camilla as “the villain” and “the third person” in the marriage of his late mother, Princess Diana, and the King.

In his book, the duke described meeting his soon-to-be stepmother as being like an “injection,” where he thought: “Close your eyes and you won’t even feel it.”

Later in the tell-all tome, Harry described her as a “dangerous” character who “left bodies in the street” in her quest to improve her public image.

He would admit he felt Camilla had “sacrificed me on her personal PR altar”.

Harry may also have a hill to climb in reconciling with his brother, Prince William

Despite the cutting remarks, Harry also said in an interview that: “I love every member of my family, despite the differences.”

“When I see her, we’re perfectly pleasant with each other. She’s my stepmother. I don’t look at her as an evil stepmother.

“I see someone who married into this institution and done everything she can to improve her own reputation and her own image, for her own sake,” he added.

In rebuilding his relations with the Royal Family, Harry’s greatest challenge may be his brother, Prince William.
